Bright pastels have faded to off white
The flags once flown we rallied our fight
Town’s fatigued worn the bitter end
Life bled gone out no one defends
Women folk gone army invades
True love broken taken in raids
Livestock stolen houses burned
The death of my life lesson learned
Join their army bring strife within
Bring new men too as towns give in
Show favorite booties deprived
Roll the stone true army divides
As the war fights take back what’s yours
No one will see sound of uproar
Run for your life go far and roam
Choose well too and make a new home

I like your blog … and I congratulate you on being highlighted. This poem, it is written as if from a veteran. It is good … it is painful, showing the waste and loss of war. Thank you for this. Liz
