Over the edge hanging by four fingers
The pit of my being said let’s not linger
Adrenaline strength, but one finger was slipping
Salt in my eyes from the sweat that was dripping
Falling in slow motion my hand is grabbed tight
My feet start to slide as I fight for my life
Going down hard, rock’s cut open my knees
Then I stopped my slide when I grabbed a tree
He pulled me forward and I fell face down
Clutching the weeds, I was praising the ground
I thanked the stranger that saved me from dying
My tears mixed with sweat as I started crying
I finally get up and look down the dirt road
Thinking I’ll never stray and do as I’m told
No matter how great the temptation may be
I’ll look down at my leg and the scar on my knee

I tried to tell it like an adult looking backwards towards his youth, but it still sounds mature.

nice story, I like that there’s a reminder like the scar inflicted by my mother on my right hand so I will not touch anything, hmmm scars can teach us things if we are willing of course ๐

Sorry that it brought back that memory but it’s hard not to remember when the scar is that obvious. I can count my scars very easily because of a keloid condition.

!!!!!!! This… this was true beauty! The meaning I took with this lifted my depression today and reminded me to look at the scar and be reminded of life – not death! Maybe that has nothing to do with your write, but I felt that inside of me as I read your poem:)

Thanks ~L. As writers they say that we write for ourselves, but when I have touched a person in this way, I have to say it makes sharing more important.

So sorry this got overlooked, Michael! I love it! I have a scar too, that reminds me of a “mistake” I made. Funny how scars have so many stories to tell. My son who is 15 actually LOVES getting scars lol he thinks they are “cool”. He wrecked his bike riding down a hill with no hands one time and got a pretty bad one on his leg, he said he hoped it left a scar and I asked why when he told me, “because I will never forget it and I will have something to talk about.” ๐ Thanks for sharing your story with me ๐ HUGS!!!

I’m glad you got to read it. I did get started late in writing it and It was the holiday weekend so I can understand how it was missed. I just happened to like how this one came out because when I started it I didn’t have a clue where it was going to go. Scars are sometimes milestones and it’s a good thing to remember when we are about to try something again that got us in trouble the first time around. Any way.. have a happy New Year!
