Two different ears and large shoulders waiting
An imp and angel came in, always overstating
The words they used were always dam conflicting
But just having one around, I found too constricting
As it turns each one of them, had their own agenda
And living large in their own, large hacienda
The weight on my back, has kept me looking down
I didn’t know half the time if what I did was sound
It’s time I evicted them, out of my life
I no longer can handle all this dam strife
With them off my back I’ll have back my vision
To walk upright and make my own decisions

So important to get those imps off our shoulders! Great rhythm, rhyme, and pacing.

Hmmm…interesting take. Never just black and white, since there are always those pesky infinite shades of grey that the angel and imp don’t consider. I think you have captured one of the main reasons I do not conform to any one, specific religious doctrine. I rather like the Dalai Lama’s “religion” : kindness. No angels or imps to worry about there. π P.S. Excellent title!!

Yeah the title can imply something completely different. smiles… I betcha couldn’t tell I was experiencing a conflict when I wrote that. I’ll say this, but I don’t do it enough, and that’s if I follow the Spiritual Laws; whether you think there are 4 or 7 or some other number, I’ll be OK. I think you’ll find these Spiritual Laws can be found in just about every faith. One everyone knows is called Karma by some of them. That’s enough of that; I’ve crossed over into one of the two areas I said to myself I would stay out of in the comments.
