Our Song

Happenstance brought us together
Events are tearing us apart
We’re no longer safe together
It’s time to separate and part

As memorable as the night was
Morning shades only last so long
Now it’s time to finish our coffee
And try to remember our song

  1. Awww, so sad when love ends for whatever reason. Very lovely and heart felt writing.

  3. The heart is open and bare … poignant in the last moments, or with the realization an end is necessary! Touching and real ~~

    • Lonely hearts are open to people who are willing to take advantage of them and their affections. For a lot of people it’s hard to tell who are real and who are not. One night stands only fill the loneliness for a few moments.

  4. There is a sadness to this. Like there is yearning for something more substantial, but for now a one night stand will have to do. I really like how you have depicted this, your choice of words and the ending. Nice write.

  5. Sad…so many are lonely. I love the word ‘happenstance.’ A nice poem, Michael.

  6. I like it! I don’t know if it was personal experience but, for some reason it didn’t seem like a one night stand to me. It seemed as though it were two people who loved each other but, just couldn’t get along.

That’s what I love about poetry… No matter who reads it, it always has a different meaning. Well done!
